This is a small signed original cyanotype measuring roughly 4.5 x 6 inches, on acid-free, 60 percent cotton watercolour paper from Canson.
'A whole new world' was inspired by the loss of freedom that I imagine my outdoor cat felt after she was brought indoors and confined for her health, with an entire garden outside for her to miss. It was made around March 2023, from sketches I had done in Deoghar, India in 2022.
I illustrated the image on a sheet of transparency, and used it as a negative for the cyanotype process. This means I can get more prints from the original negative, but since each image is hand-printed and developed by hand, differences in humidity, exposure time, developing process etc., may lead to differences in the end results in each case. I intend to use the negative for variable works of mixed media art limited to 50 in number.
This print will fit in a standard off-the-shelf 8x10 frame. It will be shipped without a frame, but mounted on acid-free ivory mountboard and wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and cellophane sleeve, ready to slip into a frame.
I don't offer frames, but recommend that this piece be housed in a white or metallic frame.
I suggest you should hang or stand the frame away from sunlight, as cyanotypes have a tendency to fade with sunlight. You could also frame under UV-resistant glass. Ideally, there should be a mat acting as a spacer between the frame and the image - air circulation is good for cyanotypes. But don't worry: if you want to expose the rough edges as in one of the pictures above, you can go ahead and mount onto the backing board.
Most cyanotypes last decades, and if there is any fading, just put away in the dark and bring it out again when the colour is restored.
Hope you enjoy your purchase!
