This cyanotype original (A4) is on 250 gsm watercolour paper. It is an image of summer wildflowers underfoot at Kew Gardens, where people go to look at the exotic plants in greenhouses.

I found these grasses and wildflowers in the extreme north of the grounds, in an area known as the Syon Outlook. A series of benches allows visitors to enjoy the open view across the Thames and into the grounds of the historic Syon House. But looking down underfoot, I found the little heads of pink and blue and yellow flowers and blades of grass trembling in a natural breeze that blew across the river and into the holly oaks that surround the mansion pond. I had to take a snapshot with my phone, and this cyanotype is a result of the photograph that I drew from.

I chose to leave this image in the original blue and white in memory of the original photograms of seaweeds and botanical specimens that Anne Atkins and others documented near the beginning of photography. It retains the spirit of the 'blueprints' that architects made of their drawings.

I will pack this work with hard backing and wrapped in acid-free, protective tissue paper. I may also reuse packaging to do my bit for the environment. I hope you enjoy this work as much as I enjoyed making it.
